Yvonne Moorefield

Yvonne (Pettigrew) Moorefield, age 71 was called home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday morning November 26, 2021 at the Hospice of Dayton. She was born on July 17, 1950 at Miami Valley Hospital, the last of six children to Roy D. & Gladys F. (Margerum) Pettigrew.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy D. Pettigrew Sr. & Gladys F. Pettigrew; brother, Lewis Michael Pettigrew; husband, Sherman E. Moorefield Sr., Michael T. Mooreland and mother-in-law, Ethel M. Moorefield.

Yvonne attended Willard Elementary School & finished at Grace A. Greene Elementary School before going on to graduate from Roosevelt High School class of 1968 where she was devoted to helping with her class reunions throughout the years. She worked at Lion Apparel for many years before retiring from NCR as a Mailroom Supervisor.

Yvonne confessed her love for Christ & was baptized at the age of 7 years old. She is a lifelong member of Zion Hill Baptist Church at 1900 W. Third St. Dayton, OH; she sang in the church choir & devoted many hours of charitable commitments including caring for and feeding the homeless.

Yvonne best known to all as BB loved the Lord, her daughter, children, grandchildren, sisters, brother, family & friends. Yvonne was unique and special in her own way. To know her was to love her. She was gifted with many talents; her utmost was sharing her beautiful voice. She started singing at a very young age that continued throughout her life. Under the guidance of Tawana Baccus she learned to play the piano & stupendous voice control. She sang with Dianne Coble and the Gospel Sounds for 9 years. In later years they would entertain the seniors at holiday events. She provided happiness to many singing at weddings & with local R&B groups in the area. She enjoyed music, playing her keyboard, dancing, cooking, having a good conversation & entertaining her family & friends. She loved to stay close to her distant family with visits or calls. She looked forward to her yearly trips with her best & longtime friend Rhonda (Davis) Alexander. Her favorite reminder to her sisters all her life was “I’m the BABY”.

She leaves to cherish her life memories: her daughter, Angela Moorefield Jenkins; stepchildren who she claimed as her own, Sherman (Shelly) Moorefield, Cory A (Denise) Moorefield and  Melody (James) Nelson; seven grandchildren, Devin & David Jenkins, whom she dearly loved, Michael Jr., LeAndra Caldwell, Ashley N, (Felix) Ruiz, Cory Moorefield and Ashley M. Moorefield. She leaves four great- grandchildren, Karsyn Jenkins, Kyla Wilson, Shayla Caldwell  and J’Myah Cleveland; three loving & devoted Pettigrew sisters, Gloria J Rutledge, Beverly A. Heath, Ethelene Defurr aka Sheppy of Dayton, OH.; brother, Roy D. Pettigrew Jr. of Shelling, GA., a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives & friends.

No Expression can take away the emptiness, hurt, loneliness or pain. Only our Lord and Savior can bring peace & quietness in the midst of our storm and comfort in our time of sorrow.
