Vernon Wagner, Sr. Obituary

Vernon Glenn Wagner was born to the union of Nathaniel and Mamie Ruth Wagner on Friday, October 7, 1960, the youngest of seven children. He departed this life and was born into eternity on Saturday, May 18, 2019. Vernon confessed Christ at an early age, was baptized and received Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior. He and his siblings were raised to be fervent believers and worshippers. He served God under the Pastorate of his maternal grandparents, the late Bishop Luther & Mother Ida Lundy at Revealed Holiness House of God. Vernon graduated from Princeton High school in 1979, and continued his education by studying electrical engineering at ITT Technical Institute in Dayton, Ohio from 1980- 1982. Vernon worked at Fernald, AK Steel and Superior Environmental Solutions. Vernon, an avid sports fan and participant, was part of the 1978 Princeton Vikings Team (#81 tight end) who won the state championship title and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2015. Vernon’s passion for music was one of the great loves of his life. He enjoyed music of all genres but gospel was his absolute favorite. His love for music started in church where he was practically born. He started at a very young age as the church drummer. Growing up in church and listening to his mother play the piano, Vernon soon tapped into another talent…pianist. He became an awesome organist, mentoring his nephews, grandson and others in the skill. Vernon was instrumental to many upcoming musicians and choir directors. He could teach all parts including soprano, and he didn’t mind laying on a note, until the right one was reached. Not only was Vernon a musician, he was an incredible vocalist and worshipper. Vernon loved good times with family and friends, especially if food was involved. Anyone that knew him knew he loved to eat! He especially loved his late wife of 25 years, Deonta’s cooking. One of the amusing stories friends and family told about Vernon was his “selfprofessed” title as a handyman. He had an “unique” approach to repairs as he believed anything could be fixed with duct tape, a hammer and nails. Vernon was a neat freak. He would organize, and reorganize until it was to his satisfaction. He wasn’t afraid of hard work, and could be called upon for help with the most difficult tasks. Vernon loved to laugh and had an infectious laugh which could resonate through any room. He got lots of joy out of helping his loved ones, and friends. He was known for slipping his grandchildren a few dollars for good grades, using their talents for the Lord, or just because. Vernon will be terribly missed by his family and friends…. From the words of one, of his favorite songs: God my Savior, God my Healer, God my Deliverer, Yes He is! Every praise is to our God! Vernon was preceded in death by his parents—Nathaniel Wagner, Mamie Ruth Wagner, wife--Deonta Wagner, son--Vernon Wagner Jr., grandson—Benjamin Torrey, siblings: -- Nathaniel Wagner Jr., Cynthia Ruth Owsley, Ronald Earl Wagner and Sheila Ann Bond.
