Tressie Porter Obituary

Tressie (Boykin) Porter, age 89, of Dayton OH, went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 7, 2021.  She was born January 24, 1932 to Herston Boykin and Beadie Duckworth of Jasper Mississippi.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, Herston and Beadie Boykin (aka, Sonny and Beadie Ward); her sisters May Katherine Ward and Mary Ellen Dix; husband, Leonard H. Porter; and son Raymond Smith.  She leaves to carry on her legacy her loving son, Melvin (Jacqueline) Boykins; brother’s Ezekiel (Anita) and Michael (Eleanor) Ward; sisters Ophelia (Ward) Hall and Mercedes (Ward) Nell; and daughter-in-law Linda M Smith; special granddaughter and care giver: Jykarta Rynee Boykins and loving great grandson Mekhi Andrade; granddaughters, Tawana Jones, Rosalind Evie Leininger, Dawnyell Chnine Lewis, Angelica Smith; and grandsons, Travis L (Linda) Mack, Hasene (Benita) Boykins, Melvin Boykins, Jr, and Damon Jackson; special neighbors: Dennis and Mariam Williams, special family friends; Connie Mack and Beverly Heath and a host of other family members and friends.

Tressie was a lifelong member of Bethesda Temple Apostolic Church, 3701 Salem Avenue, Dayton OH and a devoted biblical scholar.

Tressie was a saint of many talents with her upmost priority sharing the love of Jesus Christ and winning soles to his kingdom. She led her entire family to Christ and very few people left from under her roof without accepting Jesus as their Lord and Savior. She had exceptional culinary skills.  She served as the head Chef at Winters National Bank for the bank Executive’s and also was the head Chef for The Brown Derby Restaurant in Dayton Oh.  She could take a little of this and a small amount of that and create a delicious feast for her family and friends. (Surely, she got that gift from Jesus feeding the multitude).   She could preserve (can) just about anything.  She created beautiful quilts and was skilled in crocheting and knitting a sundry of items.  She took time to plant her garden of vegetables, raising her many dogs and found time to mow the grass and raise her grandchildren.  She had no idle time for the devil’s workshop.  She enjoyed up beat gospel music, reading the word and would type out certain passages on her computer.
