Sylvia Alcorn Obituary

Sylvia Jean Davis Alcorn was born April 17, 1942 to the union of Alex Leroy and Maggie Bell (Barnett Barron) Davis in Hamilton, Ohio.  She made her transition from earth to Glory Friday, February 26, 2021 surrounded by her family.

She attended Hamilton Public Schools and was an outstanding student as teachers often noted on her report cards.

Jean gave her life to Christ at an early age and was a life-long member of Second Baptist Church.

Sylvia Jean was a strong hard-working woman and instilled that quality in her daughters.

She was employed at Fort Hamilton Hospital on the Behavioral Services unit for 43 years where she was highly regarded by both the patients and staff.  She retired in 2008.

On November 4, 1967, she married the love of her life, Henry Lewis Alcorn, who often called her his “brown-eyed beauty”.  They then embarked on building their joyful life together each bringing two daughters to the marriage and later added a baby girl, Shawnda now making their cup run over with joy, laughter, and love.  They created a beautiful loving family.

Jean and Lewis enjoyed taking trips with the Israel Baptist Church Keenagers group as well as family trips.

Jean loved cooking and baking.  Her favorite holiday was Thanksgiving and she loved preparing a delicious spread for her family.  She would also prepare scrumptious treats during the Christmas holiday like her soda cracker candy, puppy chow, peanut butter fudge, and strawberry bread to name a few.

Jean was a very stylish woman who always took pride in her appearance.  She loved to shop, some of her favorite stores were Elder Beerman, Martins and would often say her car just knew to directly go to Dillard’s in Tri-County Mall when she would get off work.

She was proceeded in death by her dear, husband, Henry Lewis Alcorn, her parents, Alex and Maggie Davis, daughter, Mary A. Ross,  siblings, Walter Barron, Jr., John Barron, Bobbie L. Street, and Ollie Davis.  Jean leaves to cherish very precious memories her daughters, Henrietta “Penny” (Tony) Coles of Lexington, Kentucky, Kimberly Jean (Michael) Lee, Lisa Ann Harrison, LaShawnda Lynn (Tim) Johns all of Cincinnati, Ohio; her grandchildren, Vashon (Debbie), Shannon, Marquita (Andre), Angela, Michael (Tyla), Bryan (Valencia), Ashley, Caleb, Jordan, Jayla and Tyler; great-grandchildren, DaShon, Nathaniel, Tyre, Natiah, Branden, Amiyah, Mariyah, Ayianna, Bryan, London, Aryan, Amber, Cha’deah, Casamyia, Bay’leigh, Ashtyn, Lorena, Asya, Vincent and Avery; her sister, Beulah M.
