Sharon Martin Obituary

Sharon Y. Martin was born October 9, 1960, in Brooklyn, New York to Lillian Garvin and the late James Hymen Martin.

Sharon attended Bushwick High School. Shortly after high school Sharon became a short order cook and an Apartment Manager; jobs she thoroughly enjoyed. In 1990, Sharon relocated to Dayton, Ohio.

Who was Sharon you ask? She was a force to be reckoned with! From her tall statue to her way of telling it like it is. I'm  sure we've all heard her say, a time or two or three, “find you something to do and messing with me is not one of them.” But, just as fast as she'd tell you to move out of her way, she would offer you a seat and one of her favorite beverages – coffee, orange soda or Pepsi.

Most days, Sharon sat outside where she enjoyed listening to music and playing scratch-offs. If you blink, she'd be out of sight and more than likely at the casino playing the slot machines. You would never know if she won big and you sure shouldn't ask. All we knew is that, sometimes she needed to hold a few dollars, “until the weather is right.”

Sharon had tons of one liners, you wouldn't know whether to laugh, question it, or ask again to make sure you heard her correctly. They all spoke to her witty personality, a trait she passed on her to her baby boy. She was also nurturing, a trait she left to her daughter. Sharon was usually on the move, a trait she passed on to her oldest son.

Sharon was a very strong woman, we saw it in the way she battled breast cancer. She fought long and hard. Sharon was one of a kind and will truly be missed. The time God allowed us to spend with her will be honored, cherished and truly unforgettable.

Sharon was preceded in death by her father, James Martin; grandfather, Wallace Martin; grandmother, Frances C. Crawford (Madear); Inez Cowan Alford; grandfather, Mitchell Cowan; uncle, Mitchell Cowan and cousin, Darryl Cowen.

Sharon leaves to cherish her memory; Lillian Garvin, mother; three children: Tennile Lanier (Randy), Cory Martin and Barkein Martin (Nicky) whom Sharon always called, Keiny; loving sisters: Deborah Martin, Stacey Garvin (Reggie); brothers: Keith Martin and Ellis Garvin Jr. (LaShonda); special friend, Buster Barnes.; caretakers: Robin DeClue and Evelyn and a host of nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
