Ronald Cardwell, Sr. Obituary

Ronald Cardwell, Sr, 71 years of age, passed on Monday, January 15, 2024, at Hospice of Hamilton. Ron was born March 5, 1952, in Hamilton, OH to the late Samuel and Ezella (Barrow) Cardwell, Sr. Ron professed his life to Christ at an early age at Israel Baptist Church. He was educated in the Hamilton City Schools System, and he attended Marquette University in Wisconsin on a band scholarship. Ron loved music and played the drums with the musical group Zapp. Ron also rode a motorcycle as a member of the Roadrunners. In his early adulthood, Ronnie was married to Betty (Bembry) Cardwell, and they were blessed with four children: Teresa (Cardwell) Turner, Alisa Cardwell, Ronald Cardwell, II, and Angela Cardwell. Ron retired as a truck driver, and post his divorce from both Betty Cardwell and Ruby Mitchell, Ron married Carla Williams Cardwell.

Ron spent many years working in the trucking industry and eventually owned and operated a charter bus, Southern Ohio Charters. Ron loved to explore the open road and visit multiple states. He would volunteer often to use his bus for any family event, even taking the grandchildren to local fast-food restaurants on weekends. Ron traveled through most states and could help you navigate any state route over the phone. He was always just a phone call away.

Ron overcame a life of personal struggles and rededicated his life to the Lord at Christ Temple Church of God in Christ under the leadership of the late Supt. W.D. Mack. Ron volunteered his bus driving skills and his charter bus to Christ Temple by organizing trips for conferences, and youth outings, and raising funds for the building funds. Later in life Ron joined a men’s ministry led by Pastor Vic Hunter where he spent many evenings in fellowship with a wonderful and supportive group. The ministry provided profound support during some of his most difficult years.

Ron loved music, playing cards, dominoes, and eating “fried” chicken. He loved traveling to games and was an avid supporter of Cincinnati Reds, Bengals, and FC Cincinnati. A lover of music, he enjoyed concerts and attending local plays. Ron loved spending time with family, laughing, and always wearing a smile on his face. Everyone he met instantly became family. Ron was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, always thinking of others first. “To know him was to love him.”

Ron leaves to cherish his memory his children Teresa (William) Turner of Lemoore, California; Chad Skidmore, Alisa Cardwell, Ronald (Lorna) Cardwell II, Angela Cardwell, Josh Parmley of Hamilton, Ohio and Ericka (James) Cottingham of Columbus, Georgia; four bonus children, Michelle (Pat) Jimmar and Charles Williams of Hamilton, Ohio, Maria Brown of Cincinnati, OH, and James (Cristen) Sudberry, Jr. of Fairfield, Ohio. 27 grandchildren, Tanea, Tarea, DeMel, Karlei, Auviance, Kaylei (Nate) Johnson, Imani, Jonathon, Ronald III, Johnae, Johneise; Jarren, James II “BJ”; Amaya, Jordynn, and Jameer. TJ, Passion, Tyla, Charles Jr., Ivon, Naomi, Hannah, Caleb, Serenity, Jamey, and Tristian. Six great-grandchildren: Mila, Kyron, Ayla, Emmitt, Josiah, and Malachi. Two aunts; Claudetta Hughley of Forest Park, Ohio, and Murlee Noble of Bradley, Arkansas. One uncle, Clifford Barrow of Arkansans. Three brothers, Samuel (Marilyn) Cardwell, Sr. of Rockford, Illinois, Larry (Denise) Cardwell, Steve (Janice) Cardwell, and his special niece Tina Cardwell, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
