Ritchie Moorehead Obituary

Ritchie Moorehead, a beloved son, father, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and dear friend, departed this life too soon on October 28, 2021.  Ritchie was born September 2, 1995 in Dayton, Ohio to his loving parents LaToya Myrick & Ritchie Moorehead.  Ritchie was a graduate of Thurgood Marshall High School and worked for the International Brothers of Electrical Workers (IBEW) as a Journeyman Electrician for the last 8 years.

One of the things that made Ritchie so special was the love and devotion he had for his daughter Kamylei.  Ritchie started a tradition of father/daughter time taking her to swim lessons every week at the age of 4 months.  Ritchie was completely enamored with Kamylei who just happens to be her father’s twin.  Ritchie was excited to be a ‘girl dad’ and looked forward to watching his baby girl grow up.

Ritchie had an unbreakable bond with his parents, sharing in their belief of being honest, having integrity and a strong work ethic. Like his parents, Ritchie had a love for the finer things in life and always worked hard to achieve the things he wanted.  When you saw Ritchie you knew he was going to “show up and show out.”  Ritchie never believed in settling for mediocrity in anything he did. He had a great, loving personality that drew people to him.  Although sometimes an introvert, he had a wonderful aura and spirit around him that made people gravitate to him.

Ritchie had a great relationship with his sister, Jai’la who could always go to her BIG brother for great advice and a shoulder to lean on.  Ritchie loved his sister and was very protective of her. They had a special bond with each other that couldn’t be broken.  Another strong bond was Ritchie’s love for his grandmother who he called his “Nana.”  His Nana doted on him and he could call on her at any time.  She was in constant awe of his artistic abilities as witnessed by his first tattoo being his hand drawn tribute to his Nana. A piece of her heart will always be with her grandson.

Ritchie loved and cherished his family.  Ritchie had an incredible bond with his uncle Tommy, or “Unc” as he liked to call him.  His Unc always had his back and was there for him no matter what it was.  They loved playing basketball together and in typical Ritchie fashion, he thought he was better than his uncle at hoops. They also shared a love for cars as well.  Ritchie was always enhancing his vehicles and couldn’t wait to show his uncle.  His Unc was incredibly proud of all he accomplished in his short life.

Ritchie had a special relationship with his grandmother Myra, great aunt Marlene, auntie Michelle who all meant the world to him.  They would talk and see each other as often as they could.  Ritchie’s uncle Willie also held a special place in his heart. They would talk for hours and catch up with each other’s lives.  Distance didn’t alter the love he had for any of them.  It just made the bond even more special and precious. Ritchie’s uncle Rudy, who was there for him before he passed, will now watch out for him in Heaven.

When not spending time with his daughter, Ritchie’s second love was being in the studio he created in his home to continue his budding rap career.  As with a lot of things with Ritchie, also known as Esco, his rap career was taking off and once again the sky was the limit for him.

Despite his sometimes busy schedule, Ritchie always made time to hangout and chill with his friends/brothers, Satch, Tre, Rob, Jyair, Mickey, Sab, NaVonn and Ray.  What makes their friendship so special is they were always there for each other and supported one another with whatever was happening in each other’s lives. Ritchie loved being an uncle to Satch’s daughter and they planned to raise their daughters together as sisters.

Being a great son, father and person wasn’t Ritchie’s only gift. Ritchie was an extremely talented young man in all his endeavors.  Whether it was being a successful, licensed electrician who worked on multi-million dollar commercial projects such as the Columbus Crew Professional Soccer stadium, Miami Valley North Hospital, Downtown Dayton Library or the State-of-Art CareSource building in downtown Dayton, Ohio; Ritchie took pride in his craft.  Always the perfectionist and meticulous by nature, you could be certain whatever the job was it was going to be done right.
