Percy Hawes Armstrong was born on September 19, 1931 in Mt. Pleasant Tennessee. He was the youngest of four children born to bless the union of the late Jake Sr. and Lala Mae Armstrong. He departed this earth peacefully on July 15, 2020.
Percy was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Jake Jr. and Franklin A. Armstrong and sister Gloria Peterson.
Percy was educated at Clarke High School and graduated with honors. He graduated from Tennessee A&I University which is Tennessee State University now. Tulsa Technical College in Tulsa, Oklahoma and Xavier University in Cincinnati.
Percy helped build Maury County Hospital in nearby Columbia Tennessee.
Percy served in the United States Army in the Korean War Conflict.
Percy worked for the Census Bureau in Parsons Kansas,The Federal Government at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, General Electric Evendale, and at the Federal Building for the Army Corp of Engineering. After retiring he worked part-time for Smyth Automotive and Shillitos Department.
Percy loved playing the Ohio Lottery, reading and watching western television shows. His favorite singer is Gladys Knight.
Percy was a member of Veterans Memorial in Woodlawn Ohio and served the Woodlawn Community as an EMT. On the Fire Department.
Percy loved his family, He is survived by his wife of 64 years Cornelia, his sons with Gratitude Douglas “Eric” Armstrong (Barbara) and Kenneth Ray Armstrong Daughters with Love Kimberly Lynn Armstrong and Shelia Renee Gunn, Grandchildren Douglas Eric Armstrong II (Selina), Ferris Whitaker Armstrong, Laquinta Marquis Gunn, Sylver Renee Gunn Armstrong, Erica Latrice Ferro (Andy). Great Grandchildren Lamont Langford Jr. Jermaine Thomas, Darius Whitaker, Amyah Latrice Riley, Savannah Lynn Armstrong. Nieces Carol Denise Cathey (Thomas) Sonya Stephenson, Marathette Carroll (Steve), Demetria Davis, nephews Bruce Elliott Crawley Stevenson (Jeanette), Russell Easley Jr. Frank Armstrong Jr (Jackie)., George Dennis Armstrong, Eric Davis. Cousins Felicia Freeman, Glen, Donald, Cecil, Gary, Carl, Pam, Teressa Armstrong, John Hogue Jr. (Terri), Martha Jane Lyles, Sharon Graves, Jackie Grandberry (Larry), Karen Boykins Mcgee, Jerome, Jeannie, Tim, Bernard, Charles, Claude, Everett, Lex, Norcey Driver, Sillisa Humphrey, Danetta Driver. Cousins Pearline and William Price, Bea Driver, Charles Hogue Sr. John Hogue Sr.(Joyce) Brenda Driver Alexander, Freida Fuson (Eric) and a host of other relatives.
Percy favorite saying whenever anyone would ask him how old he was he would say I’m 39 it’s from the old (Jack Benny Show.) And he loved talking about the Korean War Conflict, and proudly wore his Korean cap everyday.
