MARVIN DALE

Marvin Dale was born in Birmingham, Alabama on March 30, 1933, to Annie Mae Boykins and Findley Dale. He was a quiet introverted young man who dreamed of seeing the world. In 1951 he joined the Air Force. This was the start of a thirty-year career in the Air Force with stints in France, Germany, Thailand, Alaska, and Ohio among other short training assignments. Through the Air Force he was able to pursue and earn his BA and MBA. He loved serving in the Air Force and was especially proud of the career that led to many lasting friendships. During his illustrious military career, he was awarded numerous decorations, medals, badges, citations, and campaign ribbons such as the Bronze Star Medal, Korean Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with four Bronze Service Stars, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with five oak leaf clusters. He retired in 1981 at the rank of Chief Master Sergeant (Chief).

He became what he referred to as a “double dipper” when he started working as a government contractor with unlimited warrant at Wright Patterson AFB for the next 12 years. He also became an active member of the local chapter of the Air Force Sergeants Association where he served as Chapter Chaplain and Division 7 President. He also volunteered in the Retiree Affairs Office at WPAFB helping newly retired personnel and their spouses navigate their next steps.

A faithful member of Wright Patterson AFB Chapel 2, he attended Sunday school, led bible study groups, and served as an usher regularly. He was a devoted Christian and loved the Lord!!!!

He was a proud member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity for over 40 years and served in a variety of chapter and regional positions including serving as President.

His family will remember him as a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He was also an avid chess player, who loved gardening, travel, music, and animals.

Marvin leaves behind his devoted wife of 56 years, Lu Dale, his children, Marviette Dale Johnson, Stanley Dale, Marva Weedon (Tony), Wanda Dale, Derrick Dale (Kym) and many adored and cherished grandchildren.

Marvin is preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Joseph Lee, Frank, Henry Earl, and Frederick Douglas Dale; and two sisters Minnie Lee Holt and Alice Marie Barnes. He leaves to cherish one brother Louis Dale, two sisters - Bernice (David) Adams, and Loretta Smith.
