Martha Jane Wilcoxson was born on July 28, 1947, in Dayton, Ohio to the union of Arthella and Ida Turner. On January 16, 2024, Martha took her rest from this world to go and be with the Lord.
Martha graduated from Jefferson Township High School in 1965. She later attended Central State University where she majored in elementary education, graduating in 1979. Martha earned many master’s degree hours in education from the University of Dayton. Martha loved being an educator, spending over 20 years teaching math and science in the Dayton Public School System.
Martha married her high school sweetheart Ray Wilcoxson Sr. on December 30, 1967. They built a wonderful life together raising 3 beautiful children: Jackie, Ray Jr. and Carl on their farm that they started and grew together.
She was fiercely competitive; beginning as an exceptional softball player for the city of Dayton parks and recreation league. She also enjoyed watching sports, especially her favorite NCAA basketball team The Kentucky Wildcats as well as the Cincinnati Reds.
Martha enjoyed outdoor activities. She had a keen eye for photography, loved hiking and riding her bike, taking her dog to the park, and spending time with her grandchildren. Martha was an amazing cook, sharing her delicious cooking with people far and wide throughout the city of Dayton and even ran a small bakery from her home at one time.
Martha joined People’s Community C.M.E. Church as a child in 1954 and then re-dedicated her life to God as an adult in October 1997. Martha was devoted to God and to her church, where she diligently served on the Missionary Society. She loved the children of the church and served many years as a Sunday School Teacher and Vacation Bible School Teacher and often brought her grandchildren with her to attend Sunday School/Church and Vacation Bible School. Martha also attended the Adult Sunday School Class on a regular basis.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents Arthella and Ida Turner; her sister, Stacy Turner, her brother, Arthella Turner Jr. and her son, Carl Wilcoxson
Martha leaves behind to cherish her memory: her children, Jackie and Ray Jr. (Makeda); her former husband of 35 years, Ray Wilcoxson Sr.; her siblings, Lance Turner (Arlene), Pam Turner and Kim Turner; beloved grandchildren, Antonio Smith, Carlton Wilcoxson, Treye Wilcoxson-Maifea, Kameryn Brown, Caleb Wilcoxson, Kol Wilcoxson, Caden Wilcoxson, Kira Wilcoxson and Carter Wilcoxson; great-granddaughter, Aria Felicia and special friends, Marie Ciolek, and Roseda Golf.
She lived her life for God and her family, and she lived it well. She was a loving mother, an amazing grandmother who gave all of herself to her grandchildren. Martha was a kind and beautiful spirit, and she was loved by all who knew her.
