Martha (House) Liggins transitioned to be with her Savior on Thursday April 27, 2023, at Aperion Nursing Home in Michigan City, Indiana. She was born on May 18, 1944, to Nelvin Leigh and Forest Hammock in Douglasville, Georgia.
Her family moved to Dayton, Ohio when she was just 8 years old. Martha attended Roosevelt High School. She worked for over 40+ years in cafeteria B at the Chrysler Plant, and then at a local group home until her· official retirement. Martha moved to Michigan City to live with her daughter and son in law, before residing at Aperion Nursing Home.
She loved being surrounded by her children and ALL of her grandchildren along with her family who she cherishes deeply. Her joy was decorating her home. Martha could go upstairs to her attic where she had a store of furniture and accessories and completely redecorate a room at any time. She loved being
outdoors in the warm weather watching the children p1ay. Her home was always open to everyone. But most of all she loved celebrating her life on her birthday with her family.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Nelvin Leigh; stepfather, Robert Leigh; brothers Tommie, LeVaughn, Ronnie and Terry; her two sisters, Dorothy and Barbara and her son, Richard Garrett .
Martha. leaves to cherish her· children Cheryl {Kirk) Webster, Terry :Liggins and Lisa (Christopher) Williams; nineteen grandchildren; fifty-eight great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; one sister, Patricia Hill and a special sister-in-law Gwen Springer. She also leaves to cherish her memories a specia1 granddaughter, LaToyia Austin and a grandson Ryan Morgan along with a special cousin, Johnnie Maddox.
