Born to the late James and Evelyn Bates, September 4, 1935 in Union, South Carolina, Mamie Louise Thomas Hunter laid down to take her peaceful journey home on Sunday May 29, 2022.
She was raised by grandmother Lucinda Lipscomb. She relocated to Dayton, Ohio in 1955 where she raised 13 children. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile, kindness, integrity and her love for cooking.
Mamie was preceded in death by her first husband William Thomas; second husband, Matthew Hunter; daughters, Patricia and Ramona Thomas; son, William Thomas; brother, Lynwood Glenn; granddaughter, Jarnetta Groce; great grandsons, Nico Elam and Matthew Turner; great great granddaughter, Trinity Elam, Rev. Ricky Groce and Robert Thomas.
She leaves to cherish her memory: daughters Linda Carr (Lewis), Nita Groce, Rose and Reba Thomas, Cynthia Stevens (Wayne), Lisa McCoy (James), Jackie Peery (Neil); sons, Jerry and Jeffrey Thomas and Anthony Hunter Sr. (Nichelle); sister, Ruby White; special brother, Brian Glenn; special aunt, Sallie Boggs and special sister in-law, Patricia Thomas; 26 grandchildren along with a host of great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, great great great grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
Flamin Mamie was a praying mother who loved her family.
