Our grandfather, James S. Wood was born on December 6, 1952, to Adolphus Wood Sr. and Erma Wood (White) in Dayton, Ohio. They lived on McNary Ave. He was a member of the Synagogue Israel Now in Cincinnati, Ohio and was baptized last year in his faith.
He was the brother of Adolphus Wood Jr. (Ruth) both Charles Wood, and Robert (Bobby) Wood. All preceded him in death.
Surviving siblings are sister, Valerie Wood (Kilgore) and brother, Philip Wood.
Our grandfather leaves this life with four daughters, Devonna Wood-Dinkins, Tamika Wood, Kyra Wood and Janine Wood. He had a total of ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Along with a whole host of loving nieces and nephews and other family members and close friends.
He was a graduate of Roosevelt High School class of “71”. After graduation he entered Kent State University and later transferred to Central State University class of “78” earning a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Education with a minor in Physical Education. While in college, he was an active teammate of the “CSU Marauders”.
After graduating college, he was employed with Dayton Public Schools as a physical education teacher at McNary Elementary, girls’ basketball coach for Fairview Middle School and assistant football coach at Belmont High School for a period. He later retired and enjoyed the company of family and friends.
