Howard L. “Lee” Moore was born in Forest Mississippi on February 16, 1943, to the union of the late Mildred R. (Crudup) and James M. Moore, Sr. The family relocated to Dayton, Ohio in 1950 when Howard was only 7 years old. He attended Roosevelt High School, graduating in 1962. He went on to attend Sinclair Community College, completing his apprenticeship and graduating as a carpenter in 1975. He continued to build upon his education, going to school for his plumbing and electrical certifications as well as for brick and block-laying.
He was employed by Delco Moraine - a division of General Motors – for 29 years, retiring as a carpentry journeyman. Concurrent with his career at Delco, he also began to purchase, rehab and lease homes, long before doing so became the growing trend that it is today. He continued this work well after his retirement from GM, and also enjoyed traveling until his health made it difficult to do so.
Giving back to his community was of significant importance to Howard. He leveraged his trade skills in volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, helping to build homes throughout the city that would give other individuals an opportunity for home ownership.
An abundantly kind spirit and gentle giant, Howard was always willing to provide a helping hand. He was extremely supportive of his family in whatever ways were needed. He always had a smile and carried the quick wit and humor that so defined who he was. He was patient, kind, not easily angered and always chose to see the bright side of any situation. Even as his health continued to decline and his quality of life was not what he would have chosen, he never complained. While Howard has now left us and is resting peacefully and safe from the cares of this world, he will be remembered and greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Howard was preceded by his wife, Yvonne Moore.
Howard leaves a host of relatives and friends to cherish his memory and carry on in his stead, including sons, Tony and Paul Moore; grand-children, Christian and Mark Moore; great-granddaughters, Kirsten Stiggers and Ka'Monie Moore; God children, Adrienne, Rachel and Naomi Crowder; brother, James (Anita) Moore; sister, Carolyn Moore Reeves; close family friend, Shirley Smiley; and special friend, Betty Upshaw.
