Herbert Albright Obituary

Herbert Albright was born on December 3, 1938 in  Cincinnati, Ohio to Edward and Josephine Albright. Herbert was the second of seven children. Herbert accepted Christ as his personal Savior at a young age. He loved the Lord and knew the Word!

He attended Ebenezer Second Baptist Church and served as a trustee and choir member. As of recent, he attended New Covenant Believers’ Church in Columbus, Ohio and helped with the Hospitality Team. Serving came natural to him, so whenever the opportunity presented itself, he would make himself available.

Herbert was educated in the Cincinnati Public School System, attending South Woodlawn Elementary School, and graduated from the inaugural class of Taft High School in 1956. After graduation, he enlisted and served in the US Navy from 1956-59. Following the Navy, he was employed by the US Department of Energy until he retired.

Herbert was introduced to the love of his life, Barbara, whom he married on April 15, 1967. From that union, he was blessed to become a father to Kevin and Shawn Crayon and went on to be blessed with two children through their love, Keith and Vicki.

Daddy, Pop, Poppy Pops, Uncle Herbert, Mr. Herbie, Candy Man, Handsome Herbie, Daddy Albright, Granddaddy Albright, Herb, Herbie, Brother Albright, Paw Paw Albright, Everybody’s Daddy, Grandpa Herbert, Granddad, Mr. Albright,or just Herbert were some of the many endearing names people knew him to be. He was a special person to so many people.

Herbert was very caring, selfless, tender-hearted, always supportive, an encourager, a loving man with a gentle soul, present, kind to all, a servant, smooth, consistent, affectionate, humble, and thoughtful… (to name a few). He had an infectious smile that you could be sure to receive at each meeting. Always complimentary…he was able to find a way to give any and everyone a compliment (even if you didn’t deserve it). He was a man with few words and facial expressions that spoke volumes.

Although quiet, he was lively and quite dignified. He knew no strangers. Everyone knew him wherever he went, because he left that impression on those that he encountered. He may have been soft-spoken but he always made sure you knew he was there. He always enjoyed being in the presence of people...quiet…but always listening and ready to contribute in his time. When he spoke, you knew he had something to say and you’d better listen. He loved people and he especially loved his family. Those who weren’t family, felt like family because he made sure you knew how special you were to him. It wasn’t unusual for him to check in on someone…with few words exchanged…but you knew hecared and loved deeply. He’d make it his business to be at any special event that involved family, neighbors, or church. He was a GREAT, GREATMAN OF GOD!

Herbert was an original “foodie”. He loved food and he loved talking about food and teaching others how to make his famous sandwiches. He loved to cook fish and make fruit trays. He loved blessing anyone and everyone with his signature sandwiches and fruit plates. “It doesn’t matter if it tastes good if it doesn’t look good.” Just like his style…it was always about the presentation. And he always had a mint to share…hence… the nickname “Candy Man”.

Herbert was a man who loved music (jazz and gospel) and could hold a tune. Herbert made his transition into eternity on October 15, 2021. He leaves to cherish his memory, his ever-devoted daughter, Vicki (Donald) Travis; two brothers James (Gwendetta) Albright and Ronald Albright; two sisters Juanita Whitehead and Wanda McNeil; two sister-in-laws Jacqueline (Gary) Stafford and Sandra (Rick) Graham; eleven grandchildren Kevin, Chris, Brittany, Escaleta, Nina, Janine, Kathy, Shawn, Steven, Donovan, Devynn; eighteen great-grandchildren, a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and special friends. Herbert’s parents; two sisters, Carmen Malone and Rosemary Russell; his beloved wife Barbara of 48 years; and his three sons, Kevin Crayon, Shawn Crayon, and Keith Andre Albright, preceded him in death.
