Gerald Jernigan is known to many as “Pickle” was born on January 20, 1956, in Middletown, Ohio to the late Ida Bell (Harvey) Jernigan and the late Arthur (Jack) Jernigan. He departed this life unexpectedly on January 4, 2021, at the Dayton Veterans Hospital.

Gerald attended Middletown High School and then enlisted in the United States Marines in 1973, returning home in 1976. He was employed by the State of Ohio Transportation until moving to Dayton. After returning home, Gerald worked other jobs until he became disabled.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, brothers L.V. Lewis (Felton), Zealous (Bro), Arthur (Junior), and Rayfield.

Left to celebrate his life and cherish his memories are his sisters, Leola Thomas, Lover Kindred, Sara Frances Calhoun; his brothers: James and L.C. (Regina) Kindred, Henry Patterson all of Middletown, Ohio; his son Malik Jernigan of Dayton, Ohio; his special daughter Angela Felders of Arkansas, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

Gerald enjoyed playing cars such as Casino and Spades. He loved watching sports and attending his niece’s and nephew’s games and events. He had a passion for babysitting and spoiling his great-great niece and nephew.

Pickle did not meet any strangers. If you met him, you would never forget who he was by his actions and the words he spoke, he would have you mad, crying, or laughing when the conversation was over.

He was a protector of the family and had such a kind, giving heart. He was always there to help family and friends.
