George Edmondson Obituary

George Eudona Edmondson, known as “Pete” to his loved ones, was born April 21, 1938 in Cincinnati, Ohio from the union of George and Mildred Edmondson. He found Christ at an early age and was baptized at Mount Sinai Baptist Church under Reverend Frisby. Growing up, he was also a member of Rescue Temple Church of God and Christ.

George spent much of his early childhood in Cincinnati’s East End, and later moved to Detroit, Michigan where he attended the distinguished Cass Technical High School. George was a proud graduate of Cass Tech and while there was involved in many activities including football where he was a standout athlete and earned the nickname “Tiger” from his coaches and teammates.

After graduation, George moved back to Cincinnati where he began work in a photo lab and enrolled at the University of Cincinnati to study Aeronautical Engineering. In October of 1958, George was hired at The Ford Motor Company where he would work for 47 years until his retirement in 2005. While at Ford George excelled, working his way quickly through the ranks from an entry level position to one of the most respected and beloved supervisors in the Sharonville Plant.

George lived a full and fruitful life. As a young adult he wed Dr. Marilyn Edmondson whom he was married to for 15 years. He later met Thelma Collier and in 1968 welcomed his first child, Holli Suzanne Collier. Later he remarried Catherine Edmondson, whom he was married to for 10 years, and in 1986 had his second child George E Edmondson III.

George was very accomplished and involved in many different activities throughout his life. As a boy, he was an Eagle Scout through Boy Scouts of America. While living in Detroit, he became a Civil Air Patrol Cadet where he was first introduced to skydiving, a hobby he would come to enjoy. George was also a fraternity member of Co-Que, an organization modeled as Men of Distinction. In his early 20’s, George spent eight years in the Marine Corp Reserve. Later in life he became an avid bowler, traveling the country participating in tournaments and even partnering with three friends to own a bowling alley.

In his later years, George enjoyed listening to audio books and classical music, and staying fit using the latest exercise gadgets he purchased from his shopping channels. However, more than anything else, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends whom he loved dearly.

George passed away on April 25th, 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mildred Edmondson; loving stepfather, Josiah Johnson; and beloved granddaughter Jazmine Edwards.

He is survived by his two children, Holli Collier-Turner and George Edmondson (Andrea); three grandchildren Morgan Collier, Meagan Turner, and Aaliyah Edmondson; two brothers, William Edmondson (Brenda) and Josiah Johnson; nieces and nephews, Gyneth Givens, Don Edmondson, Ayrika Johnson (Matt), Nia Walker; and a host of cousins, family, and close friends.
