Flora Jean Stokes was born April 26, 1942 in Hamilton, Ohio to the late Edward and Irene Stokes.
At an early age Flora Jean gave her life to Christ. Flora joined the Busy Bee Club and the Usher Board at the Bethel Baptist Church. She also attended the Hamilton City Schools. Upon graduation she moved to New Haven, CT and worked as a volunteer Nurse’s Aide and hotel employee. When she returned to Ohio, she was employed by the Wright Burnett Brush Co. as an assembly line operator.
Flora Jean loved going to her granddaughter Kiah Stokes’ College and WNBA basketball games, playing bingo, gin rummy and puzzles. At times you can see her racing down the aisle of Walmart in her hoveround looking for a great deal! Most of all she had a passion for cooking, especially her famous lemon sheet cakes.
Flora Jean leaves her cherished (3) children, Greg Stokes of Marion, Iowa, Maurice Stokes of Middletown, OH. and Deloria Stokes of Columbus, OH. (5) grandchildren Darius Stokes, Kiah Stokes, Ty’Ray Stokes, Shianne Stokes-Alexander and Dwayne Hall Jr., one sister Lucille Benson of Hamilton, OH., two brothers Charles (Alluster) Tipton of Cincinnati, OH. and Felton Stokes of Arlington, TX., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Flora Jean had a smile that was contagious when you met her, she was like a gentle flower that had a fragrance that you would never forget. She loved her family and had a special bond with all of her extended family members that no one could break and for this she shall forever be in our hearts.
