Evelyn (Pate) King was born December 23, 1934 in Rochelle, Georgia to the union of her beloved parents, Rev. Joseph Pate, Sr, and Mattie Bell Jones. On March 11, 2020, Our Lord and Savior called her home to eternal rest.
In 1937 the family relocated to Middletown, Ohio where ties were formed with New Era Baptist Church and where her father was a minister and eventually became Pastor in 1948. Evelyn received Christ and was baptized at an early age in Rochelle, Georgia. She had a beautiful soprano voice and used her gift to serve in the choir.
In high school, Evelyn’s choice of study was in the clerical field. After graduating in 1953, she secured a job at Wright Patterson Air Force Base where she worked for 34 years retiring at the age of 55.
Evelyn first met her future husband, James King, Sr. in elementary school. Their puppy love lasted through middle school. They became high school sweethearts and married on March 3, 1956 and to this union four children were born.
Evelyn joined the Order of the Eastern Star, PHA in 1975. The Chapter bestowed the title of Worthy Matron upon her in 1981. She served her Chapter for many years until she was needed at home to care for her husband.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Joseph Pate, Sr. and Mattie Bell Pate, husband, James King, Sr., five brothers, Theodore Pate, James Pate, Sr., Archie Pate, Joseph Pate, Jr., Milton Pate, Sr. and one sister, Mildred Pate.
Evelyn leaves to cherish her memories: one son, James, Jr. (Iris), three daughters, Valerie Hamilton (Thomas), Anita King, Laverne Williams (Carey), three granddaughters, Lanico King, Andrea King-Lowman (Michael) and Kristina King, eight great-grandchildren, Alexis, Jodeci, Alexandria, Avyn, Armand, Nehemiah, Amir and Storm, three sisters, Sylvia Alkins, Linda Barrett and Josephine McGriff (Courtney) one special brother-in-law, Ron Alkins, and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends too many to mention. She was greatly blessed and abundantly loved.
