Edwina S. Mitchell was born September 16, 1941 in the City of Greenwood in Mississippi, Laflore County to the union of Ed and Sally Mae Sims. She departed this life on Saturday, May 28, 2022 surrounded by her family.
Edwina was preceded in death by both parents; brothers, Eddie, Bill, Robert and Horace; sister, Mary and one great-grand angel, Xavier.
Edwina's early childhood was spent in Mississippi and later the family moved to Cincinnati, Ohio. She accepted Christ at an early age. Upon arriving to Cincinnati she became a member of First Baptist of Mt. Auburn, then later became a member of Lincoln Heights Missionary Baptist Church where she served faithfully on the Usher Board and was known for her infamous "cakes".
She attended and graduated from Courter Tech Central High School. She met and married James K. Mitchell Sr. To this union, one son was born.
During her work career, she was employed with Bethesda Hospital and Veteran's Hospital, which she retired from. Being the people person she was, retirement was short lived, so she went back to work for Procter and Gamble until her second retirement.
Her love and hobby was bowling. She joined the "Driver's Club" where she traveled the country. Her other love was cooking. She enjoyed seeing the joy on the faces of those she fed.
She leaves to cherish her memory: one faithful and loving son, James K. Mitchell, Jr. (Sheryl); two sisters, Martha (Jesse) and Nancy (Gregory); one brother, Herman; five grandchildren, Nateasia (Jerry), Sharifa, Nadia, Jason and Veronica; eight great-grandchildren, Nazir, Ny'Ana, Jerren, Tyler, Levian, Teagan, Jada, Zander, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
