Daria Daniels Obituary

Daria Daniels, was born on July 3, 1947 in Hamilton, Ohio. She was the only daughter and eldest child born to Albert Daniels, Jr. and Myra (Monroe Bigelow Daniels) Rumph. She died Monday, October 12, 2020 at Mercy Fairfield Hospital after a long illness.

Daria attended Hamilton City Schools, graduating from Garfield Senior High School in 1965. She attended Miami University, Oxford Ohio and later in her career, obtained a Masters Certificate in Information Systems.

She had been an active member of Pilgrim Baptist Church where she had accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior at an early age. She was active in Girl Scouts and other youth activities. She later became a youth leader in the church.

Daria worked for the IRS for over 20 years. She worked her way up from a part-time position as a tax examiner to Lead Computer Specialist, overseeing a team of fourteen employees. She lived in Reston, VA (a suburb outside of Washington, DC) for most of her adult life while raising her only child, Kimberly Barnes.

While living in Virginia, Daria took advantage of the proximity to DC as she and her daughter regularly enjoyed sightseeing, attending parades, going to movies and museums together, roller skating, and spending time with the large group of friends that she made. When her grandson was born, she and her daughter spent weekends and evenings attending his various games and practices.

After her retirement she returned to Hamilton, OH where she immediately reunited with Pilgrim Baptist Church and became active in her childhood community. She received numerous awards for her work within the community. Daria’s passion was the Booker T. Washington Community Center where she served for a short time as Interim Director as well as teaching both non-water and water aerobics classes, crochet classes, secretary for the Heart and Soul Steppers, and secretary for BTW Advisory Board for many years. She was also site coordinator of the E.I.T.C. Project, a free tax service for qualifying residents of the county.

Daria was also very active within the network of her extended families. She often attended and helped organize family reunions for both the Head and Monroe families in Georgia, North Carolina, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Washington DC.

Daria was a warm, intelligent, and generous woman who was deeply loved. She was known for her big beautiful smile and positive attitude. Her death has saddened all of us who knew and loved her. Her generous spirit called her to become an organ donor and her eyes are now helping two people see again. Daria was preceded in death by her parents Albert Daniels, Jr. and Myra (Monroe Bigelow Daniels) Rumph; one brother, James Wesley Bigelow; grandparents: Albert and Pearl (Robertson) Daniels, James and Willa Mae (Hale) Monroe; her Aunts: Clora Wright, Mildred (Joe) Liggins, Beatrice (James) Evans, Ruth (Stafford) Parker; her Uncles: James and Carl Monroe; First cousins: Vernon Daniels, Joan Daniels, Janice and Myra Monroe, step father, J.D. Rumph.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her loving and devoted daughter: Kimberly Barnes, Springdale, OH; grandson: Marcus Baker, Los Angeles, CA; two brothers: Michael Albert Daniels, Hamilton, OH and Jeffrey Earl (Jenny) Daniels, Australia; one sister in law: Claressa Bigelow, Hamilton, OH; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, former co-workers, cherished friends: Carol Joyce Jones, Sharon Shepherd; cousins: Rev. Regina Johnson Phillips and Elizabeth “Prudy” Knorr.
