Cynthia Bowens-Salter Obituary

Cynthia Bowens-Salter was born on October 25, 1952 to the late Dea. George and Marie Bowens in Hamilton, Ohio. She departed this life Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at Ft. Hamilton Hospital.

Educated in Hamilton City Schools Cindee, as she was called, graduated from Garfield Senior High School in 1970. She worked several jobs she enjoyed – Double Decker, Fairfield Veneer (M. Boehlke Veneer), Community Multi-Care, but she found her passion with teaching children at the Creative Center for Children. She worked until she retired in 2006.

She gave her life to the Lord at an early age and attended Second Bapt. Church. She enjoyed walking wherever she needed to go for many years. She was always seen totting her children with her. Cindee had a heart of gold, often doing things for people her children never heard of until they became adults. She even gave up a home so that one of her friends and her child would have a roof over their heads. Her strength was beyond measure. Even in transitioning, she was able to speak to most of her family, giving instructions on her final wishes; Her children call her blessed!

In June 1999, she married the love of her life, John E. “Buster” Salter. He preceded her in death as well as her parents; sister, Patricia Bowens-Colon; father and mother-in-law Clote and Esther Jean Hemphill; granddaughter Desiree Salter; great-granddaughter, Tiana Bowens; best friend Sajuana “Snook” Ware; Uncles, Clinton and William Cale Spears sister-in-law, Benita Hemphill; and her second mother, Susie Jordan.

To cherish her memory, she leaves behind her Daughter: Kiyaa L. Bowens; Sons: John Bowens, Justin and Jhontue Salter; Grandchildren: Courtney Bowens-Jackson, Zy’Ayre Bowens, Michael Smith, Justin Salter Jr., DiAmi Moon, Kamara Moon, Aaronisha Moon; Great-grandson: A’Mauri, whom she called AJ and he affectionately called her “Cimee Grammaw”;  Her beloved cats: Christian and Paris; Sister: Anna Mukes; Uncle: Leo (Caroline) Spears; Nieces: Antoinette Colon-Hammonds, Traci Colon-Jones and Denise Colon; Sisters-in-Law: Agnes Dunn and Connie Hemphill; Special Niece: Kimberly Printup Brown; Honorary sisters: Valerie Sowell-Gainey, Janice Caldwell, Joyce Sowell, Anita Sowell-Brown, Glenda Brown-Keith and Joanna Belcher-Washington, Chris Fox, Mary Smith, Patricia Hicks; Honorary daughters: Kianna and Natasha Peterson and Lisa Blaine; Special Family members: Beulah “Aunt Boo-Boo” Sanford and Cousin Patricia Hurd, along with a host of many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
