Brenda Kay Oglesby-Henderson, age 63, went home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, June 30, 2020. She was born on August 23, 1956 in Dayton, Ohio to Elder and Ruth Jackson.
Brenda was raised in Dayton, Ohio and graduated from Roosevelt High School. Brenda deeply loved her children and grandchildren. If you ask any one of her grandchildren, each one would say they were her favorite because she would make them each feel uniquely special to her. Her grandchildren laugh about her making Vaseline a mandatory moisturizer in her household. Brenda often spent time with family and friends cooking and hosting gatherings. She welcomed everyone into her home with open arms and treated them like family. Brenda’s children’s friends consider her to be their second mother and affectionately refer to her as “mama”. Brenda had a love of jigsaw puzzles and frequently completed them. She also loved listening to music and showing off her dancing skills. One of her favorite old school songs from the 70’s was “Got to Be Real” by Cheryl Lynn. Brenda’s family would often tease her about being overly inquisitive and determined to gather the all details of their lives with or without their consent.
Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, Elder and Ruth Jackson, her husband, Amon Oglesby Jr., and her son, Kambon Jackson-Oglesby. She leaves behind to cherish her memories, her loving children, Kesha Jackson, Kania Jackson, and Amon Oglesby III; her step-son, Jason Hargrove; her grandchildren, Tiesha Jackson, Mellnee Reid, Kambon Thurman, Cache’ Gardner, Kameron Jackson, Mari’Cona Thompson, Kambon Jackson Jr., and Kamon Jackson; her great-grandson, Darnell Collier III; her adoring only sister, Barbara (Larry) Postell, fondly called “Sister-Girl”; her special nieces, Felicia Oglesby, Nneka Postell, Niasha (Patrick) Piper; special nephew, Demetrius Oglesby; her sisters-in-law, Bernice (Joe) Foster, Sylvia Dixon, Vickie Oglesby, and Robin Edwards; her brother-in-law Dwight (Sonya) Oglesby; special friends, Darnella Canada, Alease Kennedy, Renee Moses, and Dorothy O’Neal, and a host of other dear nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Brenda will be sorely missed by all of her family and friends, but we will always remember her spunk, joy, hospitality, compassion, mothering spirit and undying strength. Our love for Brenda will endure forever. We take comfort in knowing that her spirit has been received into the arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and her body has been transformed and made new.
