William Franklin Sherman, Jr. was born April 29, 1948 in Hamilton, Ohio. He was the youngest of four children born to William Franklin Sherman, Sr. and Cleopatra Aline (Stevens) Sherman.
William attended Hamilton City Public Schools and was an outstanding football player. He was also an avid hunter.
William was known to family and friends as “Pete.” As a young man he accepted Christ and was baptized at Pilgrim Baptist Church.
Pete married Carol Joyce Jackson and to their union were born three daughters, Shannaon, N’Gai and April Sherman. Pete and Carol divorced in 1980.
In later years Pete was inducted into the football hall of fame in Hamilton, Ohio. He devoted his working career to Armco Steel from which he retired after his many years of service.
On Saturday, October 27, 2018, Pete departed this life. He is preceded in death by his parents, William Franklin Sherman, Sr. and Cleopatra Aline (Stevens) Sherman, two sisters Olivia Marie Sherman and Rosalyn Francis (Sherman) Shepherd, one daughter Crystal Carter, one step daughter Charonda Childs and one step grandchild Cash Childs-Hunt.
Left to cherish his memory are three daughters, Shannon Olivia (Lance) Barron of Cincinnati, OH, N’Gai Joyce (Kenneth) Carr of Hamilton, OH, April Florence Sherman of Hamilton, OH; one sister Wealthia Stevens Long of Columbus, OH, two step daughters Lamichea Childs and Shaniece Childs of Dayton, OH; one special brother Fred Sandford of Trenton, OH; two grandchildren William Aaron Glenn and Alicia Shanae’ Barron and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
