Binnie Lewis Obituary

Binne B. Lewis of Dayton, Ohio went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 9, 2018 after battling a courageous fight with Alzheimer’s Disease. She was born in Des Moines, Iowa on November 2, 1937 to the late Robert and Alice Sloan. Binnie was the second oldest of 6 children. Binnie was a graduate of North High School in Des Moines, Iowa. While visiting her best friend of over 70 years, Lenore Satterfield, Binnie found a summer internship and went to work at Wright Patterson Airforce Base in Dayton, Ohio.  She retired as Chief Protocol Officer after 38 years of service. When she retired, she received a Congressional Solute of Job Well Done by President Bill Clinton. Binnie had a passion for success and a drive to serve.  She could ignite people to come together in all areas of life. She participated on many different boards and organizations such as Black’s in Government President, Youth Choir Director for Peoples Community CME Church, and inducted into the Buckeye Trails Girl Scout Council Hall of Fame for Outstanding Leadership. Binnie was always involved in many activities which landed her the name of “Busy B.” She enjoyed spending time and supporting her family, children and grandchildren in all of their activities and never wanted to miss a thing. Binnie was married to the love of her life Irvin C. Lewis for over 30 years. Binnie is preceded in death by her parents Robert and Alice Sloan, her husband Irvin C. Lewis, her sister Patricia Donahue, her sister in law Vesta Sloan, brother in law Larry Flower, sister in law Yvonne Sloan, son in law Clarence Ross and granddaughter Brittany Coleman. She is survived by her devoted daughters Adreann Ross of Columbus, Ohio, Tonya (Larry) Lewis of Dayton, Ohio, Renee (Craig Sr.) Caldwell of Dayton, Ohio and Kimberle Coleman of Dayton, Ohio, three brothers Robert (Hazel) Sloan of Minneapolis, Minnesota, James Sloan of Des Moines, Iowa, Owen T. Sloan of Burlington, Iowa, one sister Verbena Flower of Ocala, Florida. She is also survived by grandchildren Brice Caldwell of Jacksonville, Florida, Brandon Caldwell and Craig Caldwell, Jr. of Dayton, Ohio, Thomas Irvin and Taylor Johnson of Dayton, Ohio, three great grandchildren Julian Irvin Johnson of Dayton, Ohio, Braylyn and Brandon Caldwell, Jr. of North Carolina and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and several dear friends and acquaintances. Binnie is absent from the body, but present with the Lord. She will never be forgotten and will be greatly and forever missed.
