Audrey Silas Obituary

Audrey Arnette Silas, 77 passed away at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio on March 1, 2019.  Although ill for a few years, her last days were spent surrounded by her family.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great –grandmother, aunt, and friend.

She was born on September 15, 1941 in Key West (Monroe County), Florida to Marjorie Knowles Johnson and Charles Johnson.  Her parents proceeded her to glory.  She was raise in her home town and graduated at the age of 16 with high honors from Douglas High School.  

Audrey, affectionately called “Sweet Audrey” and “Chick” by her Key West family and friends, learned at an early age the importance of family and responsibilities.  Growing up on Virginia Street, her and her family were active members of Trinity Presbyterian Church on Simonton Street.

Audrey, worked in the health care field as a Registered Nurse.  She is known to her family and friends as a courageous, fearless, and compassionate woman.  Audrey’s career in nursing began in 1974.  In 2000 she was nominated and presented with the “Go The Extra Mile” Award by the Behavioral Service Operations Council for being a role model and excellent Charge Nurse for her unit.  She retired from The Christ Hospital after 36years of service. She was a three-time breast cancer survivor demonstrating to her family, co-workers and friends that she was a fighter and never gave up to any challenges in life.  She had strong faith in the Lord and lived each day to the fullest. Never one to be idle, she cruised the world with her high school alumni and her family.  From time to time she would work part-time in the nursing field after retirement, as her compassion for caring for others never ceased.

In 1961, she married Charles Fairchild Silas of Irondale (Jefferson County), Alabama and they were blessed with five children, Austin, Timothy, Schenelle, Cheryl, and Shawn.  As the wife and children of a career military man, his family had the opportunity to live in many of Charles’s military destinations including, Coca Beach, Florida; Fall River, Massachusetts; and Ohio.

In 1974, Audrey graduated from Dimon Regional School of Practical Nursing in Fall River, Massachusetts.  In 1985, she graduated from The Christ Hospital School of Nursing in Cincinnati, Ohio.  In 1985 she continued her nursing education at the College of Mount Saint Joseph.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Charles “Buddy” F. Silas of 49 years.

She is survived by; two sons, Austin Butler of Houston, Texas (Thelma Butler) and Timothy Silas of Forest Park, Ohio (Chrystallyn Sharp); three daughters, Schenelle Silas Johnson of Savannah, Georgia (Torres Johnson Sr.), Cheryl Silas of Forest Park, Ohio, and Shawn Silas of Forest Park, Ohio, Ann Chapman of Cincinnati, Ohio twenty (21) grandchildren, Austin Jr., Justin, Torres Jr., Scierra, Daniel, Schenelle Jasmine, Brandon, Lester IV, Diamond, Kerrilee, Garth, Timothy Jr., Shavaughn, Daniel Jared, Steven, Darnell, Ebony, Simone, Patrick, and Rayshawn; (19) great grandchildren, Torres III, Anaya, Marcellis, Marcello, Malia, Bri, Malaya, Mekhi, Mason, Elizabeth, Gabriella, Kyrie, Kaylen, Christian, Kiarah, Cliff, Lyric, Harmony, Tyion; one devoted uncle Authur Clarke of Key West, Florida; one devoted brother-in-law Fletcher Silar of Bloomingdale, Minnesota; four loving sister-in-laws Elizabeth Silas of Middletown, Ohio and Jean Silas Tillman of Chicago, Illinois, Hasumi Johnson of Orlando Florida, Mandy Johnson; four brothers Felix Johnson, Charles Johnson, Raymond Johnson, Jason Johnson; Special Nephews and Nieces; Latoya, Ashli, Jay, Evan, Celeb, Makayla, Mary, Jacob, Antwon, Nicholas, Terrick; Special Fortson, Campbell, Sands, Brown, Reid, Sawyer, Knowles, Petit, Lloyd, Gallagher, Clarke, Silas and Coleman Families, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
